Headlines: Top Media Ad News in India for the Week (Date: 5th April- 11th April)

  • GroupM in association with Exchange4Media has released a report “Voicebox: Give your brand a voice”. Some of the highlights of the report include:
    • There are 574 Mn active Internet users in India, 99% of which access the Internet through phones.
    • There are about 500 Mn smartphones and 400 Mn feature phones in use in India.
    • Voice search in 2020 has increased by 270% led by Hindi voice searches that witnessed a 400% growth.
  • According to TAM’s latest report on Education sector advertising in India (Jan’21-Mar’21):
    • The education sector witnessed significant growth in advertising volume on the TV (+23%)and digital (+91%) while print (-10%) and radio (-38%) witnessed de-growth as compared to the same period last year.
    • The top 10 advertisers accounted for a 75% share of ad volumes.
    • Think & Learn was the top advertiser.
    • The top two TV channel genres accounting for more than 60% ad vol were News and Infotainment.
  • BARC India is planning to resume viewership data for the news genre which has been put on hold since Oct 2020 following an alleged TRP scam. (Source: Best Media Info)

    • Star Sports has roped in 18 sponsors for Vivo IPL 2021. 
    • YuppTV has acquired broadcasting rights for Vivo IPL 2021.
    • MX Takatak is the official short-form video partner for seven IPL teams.
  • RAM Ratings Week 6’21-Week 9’21: Fever FM maintains top spot in Mumbai, Delhi. Big FM led in Bangalore while Radio Mirchi topped in Kolkata.
  • BARC top 5 advertisers of the week 13 (27th March – 2nd April  2021) are – Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd, Hindustan Lever Ltd, Brooke Bond Lipton India Ltd, ITC Ltd, and Lakme Lever Ltd. 
  • According to BARC weekly data, the following were the top 5 free and paid TV channels in week 13 (27th March – 2nd April 2021) – 
    • Paid–Star Plus, Star Maa, Sun TV, Star Vijay, Sony SAB 
    • Free– Star Utsav, Zee Anmol, Sony Pal, Colors Rishtey, Dhinchaak
