Headlines: Top media ad news in India for the week (Date: 4th January – 10th January 2022)

The TV broadcasting  arm of Bennett Coleman & Company Limited (BCCL) , Times Network, has extended its promotional scheme for Times Now Navbharat HD, the Hindi news channel and ET Now Swadesh, the Hindi business news channel. The promotional offer includes these two channels which will be available without any charge for 90 days, that is till 31st March.

Eurosport and Jio TV have acquired the broadcasting rights for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022. The channel will telecast this tournament on TV and the online streaming will be on Jio TV.

In the FY21 the annual revenue of Sun Direct increased by 4% which is Rs 1567 cr. The total profit of the DTH operator increased from Rs 67.47 crore to Rs 250 crore.

The online multiplayer battle game Battlegrounds Mobile India, has recently announced a promotional partnership and first ever collab with Sony Pictures and the anticipated Spiderman: No Way Home. This indicates the rise of the Indian gaming industry and is an opportunity for advertisers and brands to promote their brand.

PhonePe has surpassed over 350 million registered users. The digital payment company has also reported approx 150 million monthly active users and an annual total payment of $651 billion during December 2021.

HBO Max had a total of 73.8 subscribers by the end of 2021, as per WarnerMedia CEO. The channel has expanded to 46 countries during 2021 and is even planning to launch in India. 

The marketplace arms of Amazon and Flipkart spent Rs 3800 cr on advertising in FY21. Amazon Seller Services has reported a 49% increase in revenue of Rs 16,379 cr during 2021 compared to 2020 revenue that was Rs 11,028 cr. Flipkart Internet has reported a 25% increase in revenues at Rs 8,115 cr. 

RAM Ratings Week 46’21 – Week 49’21: Fever FM tops the chart in Mumbai and Delhi whereas Radio Mirchi retained the top spot in Kolkata, along with Big FM in Bangalore.

According to BARC weekly data, the following were the top 5 paid TV channels in week 52 (25th December – 31st December 2021) – 

Paid– Sun TV, Star Plus, STAR Utsav, Star Maa, Star Vijay.
